Parody Of ‘A Whole New World’ From ‘Aladdin’ Tackles Asian Representation

The live action version of “Aladdin” was released in theaters last week, but this parody, which makes some really sobering points about Asian representation in Hollywood, would’ve made a dope addition to the film:  “A diverse film with no white saviors in the crew,” Day sings. “I’m more than just the friend or doctor tech. Now I’m in a diverse film with you.”  That way, there’s “no one to tell us no, or Research consistently shows that not only are films and TV shows with diverse casts valuable for underrepresented groups, but they’re also very profitable. However, Hollywood still continues to treat the successes of these films as exceptions and not the rule, a “ Download Join HuffPost Plus Original …

The feds now own a condo in Trump Tower, thanks to Paul Manafort

Washington (CNN)The federal government now owns condo 43G in Trump Tower because of the Mueller investigation, a judge certified Thursday. Manafort bought the 1,500-square foot, 2-bed, 2.5-bath Fifth Avenue condo more than a decade ago for $3.675 million through a shell company that hid his riches from US authorities. He used it as a home base for years when he traveled to New York and when he led the Trump campaign. His residence there was even part of Manafort’s pitch to Trump to hire him in 2016, according to The New York Times. In 2015, Manafort and his wife mortgaged it for $3 million, when his long-successful Ukrainian lobbying business dried up. He had paid off none of the mortgage, …

Trump arrives in Japan with his Asia policy in tatters, to Abe’s benefit

Hong Kong (CNN)Shinzo Abe’s long game is paying off. Only a year ago, the Japanese Prime Minister was looking like the odd one out as US President Donald Trump cozied up to China’s Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. For most of Trump’s first term, Abe has seemed like the friend who comes on too strong. He was the first foreign leader to meet Trump after his election, flying to New York for a sit-down at Trump Tower before the inauguration even took place. Since then, the two leaders have spoken on the phone almost 20 times, according to White House records, and met in person in both the US and Japan. They share an affinity for …

Chelsea secure the Europa League title amid eerie atmosphere in Baku

(CNN)Chelsea got the better of its English Premier League rivals to win the Europa League final Wednesday, beating Arsenal 4-1 amid a strange atmosphere in the Baku Olympic Stadium. The Frenchman barely celebrated the goal which helped end Arsenal’s hopes of Champions League football next season. With Arsenal unraveling, Eden Hazard was on hand to add a third — dispatching an expert penalty after Giroud was fouled in the box. Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi did produce a moment of inspiration — smashing a shot into the top corner — but it proved little more than a consolation after Hazard added a fourth following a sweeping counter-attack. The Theresa May story

Theresa May to resign as prime minister Ministerial resignations and parliamentary rebellions that would have spelled the end for a prime minister in normal times seemed to bounce off her. She ploughed on, seemingly oblivious to the chaos around her, telling MPs “nothing has changed” and promising to deliver on the “will” of British people, even as her power over Parliament and control of her warring party drained away to nothing. It might have been different had she managed to win the 2017 general election.
