3 Sunscreens That Aren’t Bad For You Betches

Attitude Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 BeautyCounter Counter Sun Mineral Sunscreen Mist SPF 30 I know I’m going to crush a lot of souls here, particularly that of middle aged dads everywhere, but spray sunscreens are the worst culprits of the chemical sunscreens. Again, not only do you have to worry about the chemicals soaking into your skin, you also need to worry about breathing them in as well. *Sigh* Must everything in life we love be so bad??? Well, fortunately, no. Switch to a different type of spray sunscreen, such as the one above from BeautyCounter, which is a non-aerosol mineral mist, to help prevent a lot of those potential health risks while still protecting your skin.

Human atrocity doesn’t start with violence. It starts with prejudice and propaganda.

Not very many things scare me, but extremism in every form does. We hear a lot about the extremism of radicalized Islamic groups, and yes, such groups are worrisome. But labeling an entire religious group with more than a billion followers as dangerous because of the heinous actions of its most radical minority element is also extremism and needs to be called out as such. We hear about child traffickers trying to smuggle children across the border, and yes, those people are worrisome. But making sweeping generalizations about migrants from south of the border and putting asylum seekers into the same category as human traffickers is also extremism and needs to be called out as such. When we don’t recognize …

UK to scrap passenger landing cards

The Home Office had agreed to scrap them for seven countries, including the US and Australia, from June, but has now decided to go further. ‘Only record’ A document from officials to Border Force staff, seen by the BBC, says much of the data collected by paper landing cards will soon be available digitally. It adds that the withdrawal of the cards will enable staff to “focus more on your interaction with passengers”. But Immigration Service Union general secretary, Lucy Moreton, accused the Home Office of “ignoring” warnings from experienced staff as to the longer-term impact of getting rid of landing cards. She said that the union had been assured that scrapping them would not happen until new technology was …

Trump tweets that he favors exceptions to abortion bans

(CNN)President Donald Trump favors exceptions in abortion bans, he tweeted Saturday night. In signing the measure into law, Gov. Kay Ivey said it might be unenforceable, but it is aimed at overturning Roe v. Wade. That’s the 1973 Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion nationwide. Other states have passed anti-abortion bills in recent weeks. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp this month signed into law the so-called “fetal heartbeat” bill. It generally would ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected. That can happen as early as six weeks, before many women know they are pregnant. Woman stumbles upon ‘world’s worst straight dude Tinder bio’ and it’s a doozy.

via Shutterstock If you’re a human with a pulse, you’re no doubt familiar with the pitfalls of Tinder and similar dating apps. Despite your attempts to use the service in good faith, there will always be other fish in the dating sea that spoil the experience — or at least memorably mar it. The nightmare parade begins as you swipe through and learn how other people see themselves — or at least how they want others to see them. The short list of ‘masculine’ activities men claim to engage in — game day with my bros, Bloody Mary brunch with my bros, camping and pissing on trees with my bros — to woo the fairer sex becomes boring quickly. Are …

These Mysterious Larvae Have An Unknown Adult Form

These teensy sea creatures, known as phoronids or horseshoe worms, might look relatively straightforward, but they’re keeping marine biologists up at night. That’s because they are simply the larval stage of an organism. Although we know a bunch of stuff about these babies, we’re pretty clueless about what form they take as adults. Their name comes from “Phoronis”, another name for the Egyptian goddess Isis. The larvae look like dancing aliens, with vibrant yellow or pink patches of pigment on a translucent body, but they will eventually sink to the sea floor and develop into adults, completing their life cycle. But which larva turns into which adult is a bit of a mystery.  Adult phoronids are filter-feeding worm-shaped animals that hook onto rocks typically between …

Why You Should Stop Using Charcoal Toothpaste

There are certain health trends that do more harm than good, from exfoliating the vagina and staring into the Sun to eating your own placenta.  Now, you can add charcoal toothpaste to the list. Activated charcoal, as a health trend, started to pick up steam in 2016. Today you can find it in everything from black lattes to goth ice cream. Even pizza, burger buns, and French pastry sometimes include it. There is no doubt that part of its appeal lies in its Instagram aesthetic. (See also: ube, unicorn toast, and many of today’s top food trends.) But its popularity also comes down to various health “benefits” attributed to charcoal. In particular, those that class it as a “detoxifier”.  According to a review recently published in the British Dental Journal, demand for charcoal toothpaste seems to be increasing …

Sea-Watch group challenges Italy’s ban on entering waters

MILAN – Italy has allowed migrant families rescued at sea by the humanitarian group Sea-Watch to be transferred to the southern Italian island of Lampedusa, but is refusing landfall to others. Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said Saturday that children and those with ailments were permitted to enter Italy, “but the absolute ban remains on the Sea Watch 3 against entering our territorial waters. “ Despite the ban, the Sea Watch announced on Twitter that it would enter Italian waters, citing humanitarian reasons. The Italian news agency ANSA said it had crossed into territorial waters by mid-afternoon.

5 Ways ‘The Office’ Would Be Different In 2019 Betches

As the modern world crumbles around us, The Office remains a beacon of hope, a reminder of simpler times, and hands-down one of the best ways to put off solving your actual problems. Whether you’re pre-gaming, recovering from a hangover, or not an alcoholic, The Office is the perfect soundtrack, and the number of hours I’ve spent watching and re-watching in my life is probably frightening. Because fans in 2019 can’t leave well enough alone, there’s of course been an uproar about getting an Office reboot. But Steve Carell says a reboot would never work—and when Michael Scott talks, you listen. Carell makes some decent points: “The show is way more popular now than when it was on the air,” he noted, adding, “I just can’t …

Japanese artist Scroll down below to check them all out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments! #1 Do you know where the concept of memes originally came from? This popular form of communication actually has its roots in academia, and the term was coined by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in his famous 1976 book, The Selfish Gene. His original idea of a meme was “a unit of cultural transmission or imitation,” with examples including the concept of God, nursery rhymes and jokes, catchphrases and fashion trends. According to The Conversation, the word “comes from the Greek “mimema”, meaning imitated, which Dawkins supposedly shortened to rhyme with gene; a nod to the similarities between the survival of …

Atmospheric CO2 Levels Top 415 Parts Per Million For The First Time In Human History

In 2015, the world got together and signed the Paris Agreement, pledging to avoid the worst effects of human-caused climate change by limiting warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Four years on and the UN Secretary-General has warned we are not on track to do so, while the carbon-tracking sensors reveal we broke yet another record over the weekend – on Saturday, the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) recorded at the Mauna Loa Observatory, Hawaii, reached 415.26 parts per million (ppm). This is the first time CO2 levels have breached 415 ppm in the entirety of human history.  “This is the first time in human history our planet’s atmosphere has had more than 415ppm CO2,” meteorologist Eric Holthaus tweeted. “Not …

How can wine be worth 4,500?

So for those of us who would struggle to justify spending quadruple figures on anything, let alone a single bottle of wine, how does this one – a Chateau le Pin Pomerol 2001- actually taste? “It’s really, really good,” enthuses Fattorini. “I haven’t had the 2001, which is quite hard to get hold of. But it’s the epitome of their house style. “It’s glossy, rich and voluptuous with lots of cherries and leaves your mouth coated with a glycerine feel. It’s exceptional.” Image copyright Getty Images Image caption A vineyard in Bordeaux – the one owned by Le Pin occupies just one acre He adds of the Le Pin 2001 wine: “It’s also very exotic. New York Dem appears to take swipe at Ilhan Omar over anti-Semitic controversy, denies talking about colleague

House Foreign Affairs Chairman Rep. Eliot Engel, D-NY, listens during committee hearing on Kosovo’s Wartime Victims, Tuesday April 30, 2019, on Capitol Hill in Washington. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin) Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., have both supported Omar. In February, Omar was accused of using an anti-Semitic stereotype to suggest that Jewish lobbying groups are buying political support. The lawmaker didn’t mention Omar or her controversy by name during his interview. “It’s not that Israel can’t be criticized. It’s just, I know when things are anti-Semitic, being Jewish, I have a feeling … we all know it when we see it,” he said. On Monday, Engel denied that his comments last week had been aimed at his Democratic …
