New York Dem appears to take swipe at Ilhan Omar over anti-Semitic controversy, denies talking about colleague

House Foreign Affairs Chairman Rep. Eliot Engel, D-NY, listens during committee hearing on Kosovo’s Wartime Victims, Tuesday April 30, 2019, on Capitol Hill in Washington. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin) Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., have both supported Omar. In February, Omar was accused of using an anti-Semitic stereotype to suggest that Jewish lobbying groups are buying political support. The lawmaker didn’t mention Omar or her controversy by name during his interview. “It’s not that Israel can’t be criticized. It’s just, I know when things are anti-Semitic, being Jewish, I have a feeling … we all know it when we see it,” he said. On Monday, Engel denied that his comments last week had been aimed at his Democratic …

Sudanese union says 6 killed in clashes with security forces

Just hours earlier, Sudanese prosecutors announced that they have charged al-Bashir with involvement in killing and incitement to kill protesters during the uprising, according to the state news agency SUNA. It was not immediately clear what punishment he might face. Protest organizers say security forces killed around 100 demonstrators during the four months of rallies leading to al-Bashir’s overthrow. Al-Bashir is also wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and genocide linked to the Darfur conflict in the 2000s. But Sudan’s ruling military council has said it would not extradite him to the ICC at The Hague. The Sudan Doctors Committee, which is part of the Sudanese Professionals Association that has been spearheading the protests since …

Black Dogs And Cats Are Last On The List For Adoption, I Want To Change That By Taking Beautiful Portraits Of Them

I’ve done a bit of research on this and there seem to be four major reasons that black dogs and cats are last on the list for potential adoptees – firstly, they don’t photograph well (I think these images disprove that point) which is tragic if you want to take over Instagram with your new pet (repeatedly smacks forehead against wall), secondly, black dogs can look intimidating and aggressive, thirdly, black cats are superstitiously unlucky (or should that be stupid-stitiously) and lastly, they are a bit plain and boring to look at. What. Evs. here. My Googling did reveal an interesting tip for shelters looking to encourage people to adopt their ‘boring’ black dogs and cats – place them with …

A 75-year-long study just revealed the key to happiness, and most of us are getting it so very wrong.

There are lots of things that can contribute to happiness and fulfillment, and they vary with each individual. A 75-year-long study, however, has found one common element that’s believed to play a pivotal role in most people’s genuine, longstanding happiness. Good ol’ fashioned friendship. This study, which is considered the longest ongoing study on human happiness, started at Harvard University in 1938 with 724 men, 60 of whom are still alive today (women were added later because misogyny). After decades of observation, one of the study’s leaders, Robert Waldinger, came to this conclusion: “Good relationships keep us happier and healthier,” he stated in a TED Talk on the subject.   That’s right, friends. You don’t have to make millions of …

Sudan’s Bashir charged for protestors’ deaths

(CNN)Sudan’s Public Prosecutor Office has instructed expedited charges be bought against former President Omar al-Bashir in the killing of protestors, according to a statement released to CNN on Monday. The military, which has since dissolved the government, has said it would remain in power for up to two years, despite renewed protests against their rule. Bashir has been transferred to Kober prison, a maximum-security prison notorious for holding political prisoners during his 30-year dictatorship. He also faces five counts of crimes against humanity and two counts of war crimes at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, in connection with Sudanese military actions in Darfur between 2003 and 2008. Sudan’s military has previously said that it would prosecute Bashir, but …

‘Gay Of Thrones’ Is Back With Tiffany Haddish To (Try To) Cheer Up Disappointed Fans! – Perez Hilton

We’ve seen a LOT of takes on Sunday’s penultimate episode of Game Of Thrones. Most of them were sad or angry or disappointed, or a combination of sad and angry and disappointed. There’s an exact mixture we have in mind, we just wish we had a visual demonstration… Ah, yep. There it is. Anyway, Jonathan Van Ness is back with his slightly brighter recap, Gay Of Thrones, in which he explains Daenerys’ dark turn by saying: “Poor Christina has flunked Winning Gracefully 101.” Ha! And special guest Tiffany Haddish has her own hot take — Dany needed the D to keep her sane, and Nephew Jon wasn’t holding up his end… so to speak. There’s also some serious anal sex talk. See the whole …

A boy was told to give the nazi salute in class. When others followed suit, this girl spoke up.

Last week, an 11-year-old girl was reprimanded and sent to the principal’s office for telling several classmates to stop giving the nazi salute. Yes, you read that right. As part of an interactive fifth grade social studies class project at the McFadden School of Excellence in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, one student was assigned to portray Adolf Hitler, and according to Huffington Post, his teacher instructed him to give the Sieg Heil salute as part of his presentation. The girl, whose father later shared the whole story, including back and forth between him and the school administration in a Twitter thread, noted that while she’d initially been given the opportunity to express why the situation upset her, afterwards she was told “not …

Media playback is unsupported on your device Media captionOne mother describes how her abusive ex-partner was granted unsupervised access to their children by the family courts Family courts in England and Wales are not properly accommodating children’s voices and needs because the government has suggested “it would all cost too much”, their former head has said. Sir James Munby added the courts are “shamefully” behind in victim support. At least four children have been killed in the last five years by a parent with a known history of violence, after a family court granted access. The Ministry of Justice said a child’s welfare was always the priority. ‘True scale unknown’ Sir James’s comments come as more than 120 MPs wrote …

Stan Lee’s former manager is charged with elder abuse

(CNN)A man who claimed to be a manager and caretaker for Stan Lee has been charged with abusing the late Marvel Comics legend. Before his death, Stan Lee was granted a temporary restraining order against Morgan that banned him from abusing, harassing or contacting Lee and required him to stay at least 100 yards away from him. “Petitioner, along with law enforcement and Adult Protective Services, believes that Mr. Morgan is unduly influencing Mr. Lee and isolating him,” a petition for the restraining order, filed last June by Lee’s former attorney, Tom Lallas, stated. At the time, Morgan denied the allegations. “I have taken great care of Stan Lee for the past many years, and have never had a problem …
